The Historical Society was founded in 1993 under the aegis of The Point Lookout Civic Association.
The Society is a reality primarily because of the efforts and custodial care of Mel and Audrey Brown and the late Rosemary Dowling.
The mission of PLHS is to promote awareness of our local history. We also strive to develop and provide educational opportunities for others to understand our local history through collecting and archiving materials.

Preserving and exhibiting Point Lookout's documentary heritage, while challenging, is important so that the collections can be made discoverable and accessible to all.

In order to drive and sustain these efforts, we seek members to help us meet our goals. Become a helper of PLHS today!

Currently, we are building an electronic inventory with the hopes of creating and updating archival and media retrieval systems. We strive to assure that Point Lookout Historical Society has the ability to maintain a quality physical repository to provide informational access with all necessary equipment to achieve its purpose. We also are constantly seeking to develop our collections that show the range and diversity of stories, issues, and concerns that Point Lookouters have engaged with over its long history.
